Considering a trip to the Oregon Coast Aquarium? Here’s how my delightful trip to Newport, Oregon went:
We woke up bright and early, eager to start our day. After a quick stop at Meraki Coffee Shop for avocado toast and lattes, we were fueled up and ready to head to Newport. Despite the initial downpour of rain, we arrived after an hour and a half.
Opting to purchase tickets online made our check-in process quite easy. The aquarium, with its indoor and outdoor sections, allowed us to navigate between indoor and outdoor areas nicely despite the rain here and there.
We began by watching the charming sea lions, and observing their playful antics as they swam around us flipping upside down and pressing their faces against the glass.

Next, we encountered my favorite sea animal, the sea otter, playing happily in their habitat, moving in circles.
Then, we went to the fish and shark sanctuary, and we had the unique experience of observing these animals swimming above and below us in the tunnel.

Our exploration continued into the coastal terrarium, where vibrant coral inhabitants like goldfish and betafish swam around. Here, I was delighted to encounter my second favorite animal, the strawberry anemone.

Wrapping up our tour at the bird terrarium, despite my general dislike of birds, the sight of puffins brought a smile to my face!
Afterward, we enjoyed a warm and delicious meal at MO’s Seafood, of course ordering the clam chowder before treating ourselves to saltwater taffy and fudge nearby. Driving along the coast on Route 101 toward Florence and back to Eugene, we finally got some sun while enjoying the coastal drive back while stopping at viewpoints here and there.
Overall 10/10 day!
